Hearing Tests

Start your path to better hearing at Kampsen Hearing. Our expert audiologists provide comprehensive painless tests to evaluate your hearing and find the right solution for you. If you’re over 55 and haven’t had a hearing test in more than a decade, it’s time to have your hearing checked!

Hearing evaluation preparation

If you suspect you may have a hearing loss, it’s important to take note of any words or sounds you’re struggling to hear and any situations where it’s difficult to hear. Ask friends and family if they’ve noticed any difficulties you have. Prior to your hearing test appointment, you’ll want to prepare your medical background information and list any medications you take. Many people like to have a friend or family member along for the appointment.

The hearing tests

Your appointment begins with a conversation with the audiologist. You’ll discuss your health and medications and the other information you prepared. After the consultation, our audiologists will conduct different diagnostic hearing evaluations – these are painless and non-invasive. You sit in a soundproof booth, wear headphones and listen to sounds and pitches. You identify in which ear you hear the sounds. Other tests may ask you to repeat back words that you hear. The tests themselves take about 20 minutes to a half-hour.

The hearing test results

Once the tests are completed, your Kampsen Hearing audiologist will examine the results and discuss them with you. You’ll see a chart of where you have the greatest hearing loss and discuss the diagnosis. For many people, hearing aids can dramatically improve your listening experience. You and your audiologist will discuss the hearing aid options available to you.

Industrial hearing testing

Industrial workers and anyone whose occupation requires exposure to loud noises should have regular hearing tests to check for early signs of any hearing loss. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires hearing tests and training for employees exposed to a time-weighted average of 85 decibels (dB).

We provide all the necessary and required exams for industrial hearing testing.  Additionally, Kampsen Hearing can make custom-fit earplugs that are comfortable and provide protection for work or hobbies that may require exposure to loud noises.
